Prepare to be enchanted, Syria is the gemstone of the Middle East. This delightful, welcoming and peaceful country is home to some of the world’s greatest archaeological wonders, from the 2000 year-old ruined desert city of Palmyra, to the awe-inspiring Ummayad Mosque in Damascus to the magnificent Krak des Chevaliers, the largest and most perfectly preserved crusader castle ever built.

Steeped in history, you’ll find Roman, Muslim and Byzantine ruins where ever you turn. The capital, Damascus, is the world’s oldest continually inhabited city and has roads that feature in the Bible. Aleppo in the north is possibly Syria’s most stunning city. Here you’ll find a great citadel, built by the heroic Muslim figure Saladin. This fortress dominates the city and commands spectacular views of Aleppo and the surrounding landscape.

Most surprising of all is the fact that Syria is a very green and fertile region of the Middle East, which explains why the local cuisine is so fresh and delicious. Combining the sophistication of European fare with the excitement of eastern spices, Syrian gastronomy has had the greatest influence on modern Arabic cuisine and will surpass all your expectations.

One of the most misunderstood countries in the Middle East, Syria should be held up as an example of tolerance, mutual respect and sophistication, as here Muslims, Jews and Christians live together in absolute harmony.

Exotic yet safe, exhilarating yet relaxing, Syria’s charming and hospitable people respect and value foreign travellers and will welcome you with open arms.
