Isle of Wight Weekender

Steeped in history from Queen Victoria to dinosaur fossils, the Isle of Wight remains one of England’s favourite islands.

Situated off the south English coast, a short ferry trip from the port of Southampton, the Isle of Wight is predominately rural with a dramatic chalk downland ridge running across the island and ending at the famous ‘Needles’. Its landscapes are diverse, leading to its oft-quoted description as "England in miniature”; that combined with 50 plus miles of coastline with stunning and very different views from each part of the island make it a very photographic location.

The island and in particular the town of Cowes are synonymous with sailing and yacht racing. On this particular weekend the famous 'Round the Island’ race takes place, where in excess of fifteen hundred boats compete in this amazing spectacle.

Itinerary

Some of the highlights will be:

Osborne House - much loved home to Queen Victoria, Prince Albert and family

Alum Bay & the Needles for coloured sands, lighthouse and spectacular views from the chairlift from the cliff to the beach

On the south of the island, tucked away at the foot of the Ventnor Undercliff area, and only accessible by foot is one of the Isle of Wight’s true hidden gems; Steephill Cove. A great place to relax and escape from the world, with a mixture of beautiful scenery, clear swimming waters (for the brave hearted!) and a great beach cafe!

Carisbrooke Castle has been an Elizabethan artillery fortress, a king's prison and a royal summer residence, with far reaching panoramic views from the high castle walls that place you at the very heart of the Isle of Wight’s History.

Round the Island race - see the huge ocean going yachts, speedy trimarans and tiny two person boats as they make their way fast or slow around the beautiful coast.
